Tutorial: openEuler Engages with the Global Academic Community

On April 27, the openEuler community and Huawei jointly hosted the SysAI Tutorial themed “Systems in the Age of AI”. The sessions showcased openEuler’s latest innovations and explorations for the AI era, attracting nearly 50 academic researchers who registered to attend and sparking lively interaction among participants.

Fang Chuangchuang, Senior Project Manager at SIR Lab of Huawei Technologies R&D (UK) opened the Tutorial with welcoming remarks and a brief overview of the program.

The Tutorial was structured around two key tracks, comprising four sessions in total.

Track 1: System Operations and Optimization Acceleration in the AI Era

Liu Yubo, an openEuler kernel and filesystem expert, presented TrIO, a technology designed to address I/O bottlenecks in container image loading. He shared how TrIO, by flattening the data path and introducing a runtime page-cache mechanism, significantly reduces cold-start latency.

Track 2: System and Distributed Scheduling Solutions for AI Workloads

Dr. Sheriffo Ceesay, a cloud-native expert from the openEuler community, presented CLYDE, a data transfer acceleration engine developed by his team on openEuler. Designed for cloud-native environments, CLYDE introduces a peer-to-peer data acceleration approach that significantly improves data throughput across large-scale clusters.

The Tutorial concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Yang Ren, Director of Boole Research Centre. He noted that the growing scale, complexity, and real-time demands of AI workloads are driving full-stack evolution across system software, from the kernel and runtime to distributed systems. In the AI era, innovation in systems software can no longer be limited to isolated optimizations; instead, it requires cross-layer collaboration across kernel mechanisms, runtime systems, distributed scheduling, data acceleration, and intelligent operations and management.
